RE: Hallo from England - sometimes Saxony !
Thanx for the info Michael. I did look at driving from the ignition side, but the take off would not be as strong as the alternator side.
Also I would have to move the ignition ! I did consider this until I found that the engine rotates counter to "normal" engines ! That would mean using a countershaft [ like Mustangs ] to correct the blower drive.
I have had another look at the alternator side - and Greg has also made some suggestions to make it stronger. Designing an outrigger bearing / seal is no problem, I just have to see if my machine shop man is willing to make it !
I think that the next decision point is when the dummy engine is back in the chassis and I can compare Turbo vs Blower packaging properly. I hope that will be before Christmas. Certainly all my friends are voting for "blower" !!

Ok, TJ,
I am voting for.... BOTH
(you have to decide, whether in serial or parallel config, or, even more weird: Blower for the right, Turbo for the left cylinder ...
Honestly, I am monitoring this thread with some kind of curious admiration.
I wish you good success for this project. Could be the first good reason for me to visit Glemseck (I do not like this kind of events...)

Hallo Carsten,
Many thanx for the encouragement !! Now both WOULD be mad !
I think we are now becoming closer to deciding for the Blower. I am in my "comfort zone" of understanding - turbos, injection, electronics are NOT my era.

RE: Hallo from England - sometimes Saxony !
back to the main plot ...... what a difference a day makes - or to be precise - half a day !
As well as the obvious progress in the pix, the blower manifolding / mountings have been worked out as well as the carb intake for the SU - which I guarantee will make you go weak at the knees ! The exhaust has been swung over to the other side - and will also look the business.
Also rough mounting points for the seat and "tank". The seat is sitting 2" high in the pix as it's currently over the tie down straps. The Tarrozi fork brace is total bollox ............. nowhere near - after I had to order it specially - and of course pay a premium.
There is loads of room for the fuel cell [ under frame ] which again has worked out a treat. Room for TWO NOS bottles hidden under the "tank".
A lot of other "whatif" ideas have also been crystallized.
Thanx to my pal Brian - who is barely well enough to move into the garage, never mind carry out the precision fab work.
So YES, it will be Eaton blower now, anyone want a new CT20 turbo !!!!

RE: Hallo from England - sometimes Saxony !
A new year - a new start
First day in the garage and we have finally [ !! ] fitted up the front forks - oil and actually got the caps on without cross threading them ! What a fargin stupid design !! The wheel has been centralised ready to be measured for the new spindle / spacers, then that'll be the front end buttoned up. STILL need a fork brace ? The one I bought was very nice - but not for my bike ! Still waiting for the refund. I think I might go all classic with the steering dampener - like the old fashioned Brit bikes - I even have a Manx Norton adjuster wing nut ! More work on positioning the blower / drive / manifolding / plenum etc. The good news is that everything has dropped neatly into place. We're also mocking up the under frame tank, breather can, etc. Rear sprocket now fitted so we can get a base alignment for the rear wheel.
And finally, I removed the "new" [ 4 years ago ] gel battery from under the seat - and guess what - it's charged up AND holding 12.75 amps after 5 days.

RE: Hallo from England - sometimes Saxony !
The under frame fuel cell is a non starter - it will not meet regulations ! So the alternative position is in the triangular area behind the engine, bordered by the frame tubes. That was my original choice with the Weber carb version, but became doubtful with the blower and definitely no chance with the turbo ! Now I have the smaller blower - there is room. I hope to have the dummy tank made up early next week.

RE: Hallo from England - sometimes Saxony !
With my health issues not resolved but stabilised, time for one last project ??
Having ended up with the early motor [ Weber ] as a "spare" and not suitable for the blower - what to do with it ?
On a recent cull in my garage [ continuing cull ] I came across a hoard of Boardtracker parts I had been collecting for one of my Yamaha TR1 projects. They've sat in the back of my garage pretty well forgotten.
I'm pretty sure we've all built a project around "that one piece" that's too good NOT to use. In my case - a Brand New 1910 La Francaise Diamant" flat tank !
Ideally the motor should have been a Vee Twin or early Brit single [ J.A.P., BSA, Enfield ] but as they are all stupid money, I decided to look at the possibility of using the spare KZ lump.
THEN I spotted this Norton Boardtracker ...................... sympathetic colourways and accessories [ loads of copper / brass ] and I think I might pull it off.
The Glemseck project is NOT being sidelined, but with my build buddy Brian very enthusiastic about the BT, it will be built alongside. Fortunately I have ALL of the big lumps - engine, wheels, forks, frame, as well as all the aforementioned goodies. The frame [ KZ750 courtesy of the generosity of fellow LT member Rich ] will be modded to resemble the Norton version and the forks ............. well with girder forks in the region of £500 +, I have come up with a cunning plan that even Baldrick would be proud of. Take a pair of early BSA Bantam [ USD ] forks - as in the good old GPO telegram boys, and disguise the look. Time will tell if I succeeded.
And not ONE stock KZ750 is being harmed in this exercise !! The frame has no V5 [ papers ] and all the other parts are non KZ - apart from the engine.

RE: Hallo from England - sometimes Saxony !
Michael - as ever thanx for your encouragement !
YES - the Boardtracker project [ Cafe Creme ] IS definitely starting. I have ALL the major parts now and I hope to make a simple frame building jig to keep everything in a straight line.
I have my next major health assessment in 3 week's time, but I am determined to carry on with my projects.
The BT will use my "mild" early [ 1976 ] engine with the 40 DCOE Weber and 2 x high level exhaust pipes - the standard off the shelf bends are almost spot on without modification.

Hi TJ,
I know about some frame modifications, where the two outer frame tubes underneath the fuel tank are removed.
Not sure how that was done in detail, but that will reduce the weight of the Twin and will allow to fit a slim fuel tank on the remaining central main frame tube.
I can't recommend that, but it seems to work
All the best,
Michael
