Y1 Brake Caliper

I have Y1 calipers on my CSR. The left caliper piston is leaking fluid. I have several CSR calipers. Does anybody know if it is ok to use with a right hand Y caliper?

Cheers

Hi KK,

as far as I know the left hand calipers of CSR and Y1 are different, but the CSR one may match the LTD setup.
Not vice versa !
Why different?
CSR has a thicker (and larger) brake disc than the LTD Y1 and the caliper matches that thickness. The brake pads are available in two different thicknesses (?) as well.
You will loose about 1 or 1,5 mm of usable range at the brake pad as you have to swap them earlier, in worst case the piston of the caliper will move out to far.

Major difference is at least the holder of the caliper !
The holder keeps the caliper in a matching position to brake disc diameter.
You need to keep the Y1 caliper holder, else it wouldn't match at all.

The diameter of the piston needs to be the same to spilt hydraulic pressure evenly to both calipers.
No idea if they are the same but I bet a beer they are :-)

Did you rebuilt the caliper using a new repair kit or using the "old" rubber rings" ?

If needed, I will find a spare caliper (without holder) for you ;-)
Just let me know.

Cheers, Michael

That explains the different part numbers Michael. Thank You. I was thinking about fitting a CSR piston in the Y caliper. From what you say the piston will be shorter. A full caliper would be better but they are rare in the UK. The caliper without holder (bracket) would be fine if you have one.

Hi KK,

Will look for a left hand Y1 caliper this weekend :-)
