Kawasaki LTD Twin 750_Muffler

Hello
Iam new at this forum and hope I will forgiven as I have to write in english.
I am a happy owner of a Kawasaki LTD 750 Twin. The bike is in a very original conition and Iwill try my best to keep it in a original state as well.
As I am preparing it for approval in order to get it registered by the norwegian vehicle authorities I have a question regarding the mufflers. The mufflers are original and the noise level is OK. The silencers innside seem to be in place an must be working well due to the low sound. But as seen on the pics the outlet has been welded for some reason and I just wonder about the 3 small holes around the main outlet, are these holes suppose to be there..?
Are there any here at the forum that own such a bike with original mufflers that can offer me a close taken picture of the outlets I would be very happy. This is important for me in order to make it possible to repair the mufler outlets back to its orignal state.
Thanks a lot for all help I can get
Salar

Hi Salar,
welcome to the Twin-Forum !
Had to smile as I red that you are from Norway.
Not because of this fact, but because we are planning a Twin tour to Norway (Lofoten) this June.
Where are you based ?
Maybe we will visit you with four Z750Twins.
Ok, back to your question.
The three holes are not stock.
Looks like the complete backplate is not stock.
Typically you will see such modification with some "sound improvements", which means some parts inside the muffler are removed and the plate welded back to the muffler.
Have no picture on hand and I am not even sure if I have a stock LTD exhaust here.
Most of my LTDs have aftermarket or handmade exhausts and one stock exhaust looks about the same than yours.
Here are some more LTD riders, hopefully they can post a picture.
Good luck,
Michael
BTW: Nice bike in good condition.
Do you have the pillion grab rail or is it missing ?

Hello Salar,
here are some pictures of the exhaust from my LTD Y1. I think your bike is an LTD S1 and it would be the same pipe as your one.

Thanks a lot to both of you.
This information was very very helpful and I now have to start thinking about how to make a round steelplate equal to the original. As I do own Kawasaki Z400/Twin I also see that the original mufler outlet on this bike has equal design as the 750/Twin.
I do have some work to do as I will have to grind the ugly welding and the customize the round steelplate so that it fits and also can be mounted with rivets.
Other than that the bike is in a generally good condition. No dents, a few places where the varnish is missing but what can be expected, the bike is 35 years old. The engine is really nice. The only negative is the mufflers but I will try to work this out as I do have some experience from previous work on my Z400/Twins.
When it comes to the pillion grab rail I do not have anything more than the pictures below shows but it could be good to have something nice looking with chrome. I am open for suggestions and offers as well. A trip to Germany is no problem when it comes to important matters :-)
This is what I have for my 750Twin:

And one more time, thanks a lot to both of you. I will be back with some more questions for sure.

Welcome again and keep us posted.
The baggage carrier is the reason why there is no pillion grab rail.
It is the good Denfeld stuff, the best carrier you can get for this bike ;-)
Maybe you can ask the seller, if he still has the stock grab rail somewhere ?
There is a good reason to come to Germany.
Every year we arrange a Z750Twin meeting somewhere in Germany and in 2016 it is more in the northern part.

As I said before, we are four Twin riders doing a Norway trip and we will finish our tour with the attendance at this meeting.
Would be great if you can come with us and join the party ;-)
Cheers,
Michael
